“We have been anointed with Holy Oil when were baptized. The anointing signifies our participation in Jesus as the anointed one that is in Jesus the Christ.”
This was the message of Most Rev. Broderick S. Pabillo, D.D., Apostolic Administrator of Manila on the 10 AM Online Sunday Mass at the St. Pius X Parish on March 14, 2021.
In his homily, he pointed out that the faithful are baptized only once but one should live with it daily.
During baptism, the bishop stated that the anointing of Holy Oil manifests our involvement in Jesus’ mission. Jesus was anointed by the Holy Spirit to become the King, Priest, and Prophet, according to the Bishop.
The Holy Oil also cleanses sins for the faithful to partake in the life of Jesus.
“Having shared in the life of Jesus, we now share in His mission as Christ. When we were also anointed, we share in the Priesthood in the kinship and the prophetic ministry of Jesus, the Christ.” Said Bishop Pabillo.
Oil is also used for healing and strength to fight against evil so that one can receive the gift of salvation.
“We need strength in order to say no to evil. Napakaraming tukso sa paligid natin. Kailangan ng lakas upang tanggapin ang biyaya ang grasya ng kaligtasan na ibinibigay sa atin.” he added.
The Archdiocese of Manila dedicates each Sunday for the Catechism on Baptism which mainly focuses on the symbols used such as Water, White Garments, etc. For the fourth Sunday of Lent, the anointing of Holy Oil during baptism was given emphasis. (Fatima Llanza)
