Tarlac bishop dies of cardiac arrest at 67  

Bishop Enrique Macaraeg of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tarlac died on Monday evening. He was 67.

According to CBCP News, Bishop Macaraeg died in Pangasinan province’s Malasaqui town “from an apparent cardiac arrest”.

CBCP News added that the passing of the bishop of Tarlac was relayed to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) by Archbishop Socrates Villegas of Lingayen-Dagupan.

Bishop Macaraeg who served the diocese for the past seven years “was reportedly playing at a basketball tournament at his hometown when he collapsed on the court.”

The Diocese of Tarlac has yet to issue a statement as of this time.

In 1979, Bishop Macaraeg was ordained priest for the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan. In 2016, Pope Francis appointed him bishop of Tarlac.
