Bishop Pablo Virgilio David, President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said the documentary Pilgrim produced by Radio Veritas and Radio Veritas Asia has rich content to showcase to the public.

Bishop David, who is also the Bishop of Kalookan, praised the documentary for the many details of history and of the faith which were shown, although he also acknowledged that there are also some details that still need to be added for more accuracy.

“Magaling you know I would like to congratulate Radio Veritas for producing it kasi it is the first of its kind, actually nag-uusap kami ni Fr. Anton Pascual [Pangulo ng Radio Veritas 846] at ang sabi niya ‘marami pang kulang’ ang sabi niya ‘oo’ ang sabi ko ‘marami pa tayong dapat idagdag diyan but it’s already a very good attempt in itself’ sabi ko. Of course, it’s a first attempt maraming mga detalye na kailangang i-correct but that will follow yung refinement nung material but it’s very rich, napakayaman [sa history],” Bishop David told Radio Veritas.

The Bishop stressed that the faithful should know the importance of knowing and understanding the history of the Christian faith in the country not only for spiritual growth but also to prevent the spread of false beliefs, especially in this time where the proliferation of disinformation is very rampant.

“Talagang yan ang pag-alam ng kasaysayan ng ating pananampalataya ay isang bagay na napaka-essential diba sinasabi nila ‘those who do not remember the past are doomed to repeat it’ at lalo na sa panahon ng disinformation, madaling i-revise yung mga pangyayari na maging iba yung pagkakaunawa kaya napakahalaga na sariwain talaga natin ng tama, in the right way,” said Bishop David.

The premiere showing of the documentary film “Pilgrim: 500 Years of Catholic Faith in the Philippines” was held at the Radio Veritas Asia auditorium in Fairview, Quezon City last April 23, 2022.

Among the bishops who personally attended the event were Novaliches Bishop Roberto Gaa, Prelature of the Infanta, Quezon Bishop Bernardino Cortez and San Jose Nueva Ecija Bishop Roberto Mallari who is also Head of the Office on Social Communications of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences.

The management of Radio Veritas and Radio Veritas Asia gave Bishop David a copy of the documentary film to be distributed in all the dioceses and archdioceses in the country.
