The Prayer for 2022 National and Local Elections approved by the Permanent Council will be launched on November 28, 2021, the First Sunday of Advent.

“At the Permanent Council meeting held last Tuesday, November 23, 2021, the request of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) for an endorsement of the “Prayer Power Campaign” asking the public to collectively pray for a peaceful, credible, and transparent 2022 National and Local Elections was presented and approved,” according to a circular released by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

Outgoing CBCP President Archbishop Romulo Valles said that PPCRV requested the Body to enjoin all parishes, shrines and chapels in the country to pray the Prayer for 2022 Elections in all Sunday Masses. The prayer was prepared by Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas.

The prayer the Archbishop added, “is similar to the Oratio Imperata but its focus is on the 16 values enshrined in the preamble of the Constitution.”

The CBCP Episcopal Commission on Liturgy recommends that the Oratio Imperata for Protection against COVID-19 Virus be prayed before the celebration of the Mass while the Prayer for the 2022 National Elections will be prayed every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the Month. The prayer for Synod on Synodality will be prayed every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month. It is also suggested that the prayer be said after the Post Communion Prayer of the Mass.
