SOCOM Ministers called to be Media Kingdom Workers

The Social Communications Ministry of the Archdiocese of Manila held its third general assembly for this year at the San Pedro Calungsod Youth Center in Intramuros, Manila last August 19, 2023.

The event commenced with the opening remarks of Rev. Fr. Roy M. Bellen, second assistant commissioner of RCAM SOCOM reminding the ministers of their roles as media evangelizers.

The half-day event was attended by 173 SOCOM Ministers with the theme “The Media and the Church Journeying Together Towards Synodality.”

In the spirit of synodality, the assembly featured the “Ka-Synodality Ministry” which aims to create awareness among parishioners and allow them to introduce the various programs of their ministry.

Mr. Ryan Carlo Roan, Program Coordinator, Trainor and Paralegal of the RCAM Ministry for Labor Concerns introduced and discussed the ministry’s programs and services which include Legal and Paralegal (Case Handling, Mediation), Comprehensive Paralegal Training, Pastoral (Catholic Social Teachings) and Advocacy (Family Living Wage, Security of Tenure).

TV Maria’s Assistant Technical Head, Mr. Jiggo Santos shared his expertise on the “New Trends and Updates on Mobile Broadcast Videography.”

To expound further on the theme of the event, Rev. Fr. Edward Dantis, SSP, social media manager of the Society of Saint Paul made use of the Bible verse (Eph 4:4) as a guide for the entire session.

“Our guide verse for the session is taken from Eph 4:4 (MSG), as the main focus for it captures Journeying Together in Synodality. “You were all called to travel on the same road and in the same direction, so stay together, both outwardly and inwardly,” Fr. Dantis said.

As one media ministry journeying together towards synodality, the priest pointed out the significant role of SOCOM ministry and encouraged them to become media kingdom workers.

“We, as part of the Social Communication Ministry praise God for the gift of the Media and at the same time, we pray to be worthy of the responsibility of using them to spread the Gospel and uplift society,” said Fr. Dantis.

“…We think of all the abilities that God has entrusted us with, and as we share our faith, time, and talents in our Social Communication Ministry, we share in the building of the Kingdom as we spread the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ. We can all do this better together and stronger. Media Kingdom Workers, we are!” he added.

The SOCOM General Assembly is a quarterly meeting of all social communication ministers of all the parishes in the Archdiocese of Manila who are encouraged to participate actively in the programs of the commission whose aim is to help them organize, educate, and motivate to become co-operators in its mission of evangelization making use of the different social media as its platforms.
