Radio Veritas holds “Himig ng Katotohanan” Songwriting Contest

Radio Veritas, the Catholic radio station of the Archdiocese of Mania is inviting parish choirs nationwide to join the “Himig ng Katotohanan,” a liturgical song writing contest.

Radio Veritas President Fr. Anton CT Pascual encourages parish choirs to write new sacred music for the Holy Mass. He as well stressed the necessity of choir participation in developing new hymns to enhance the Holy Eucharist.

With the theme “Synodality: Fellowship, Participation and Mission,” the competition will create four Holy Mass processional songs: entrance, offertory, communion, and recessional.

12 finalists will be chosen from those who submitted their entries. The first, second, and third prize winners will get P300,000, P150,000, and P75,000 respectively. The remaining finalists will receive P10,000 and a plaque.

Fr. Pascual hopes Catholic songwriters and choirs from across the nation would collaborate on songs that strengthen the faithful.

The entry deadline is  extended until September 30, 2023. The presentation and prize ceremony will take place on November 22, the feast of St. Cecilia, the patroness of musicians and composers.

Bishop Marcelino Antonio Maralit Jr., Chairman of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Episcopal Commission on Social Communication, Fr. Carlo Magno Marcelo, Fr. Nilo Mangusad, Vehnee Saturno, Ferdinand Bautista, Julie Grace Namit, and Lara Maige are the competition’s judges.
