Devotees brought the image of the Black Nazarene to Quiapo Church for the annual blessing of the replica of the Nazareno.

The blessing was held last December 27-29, 2021, every after the celebration of the Holy Mass and was led by Msgr. Hernando Coronel, rector of Quiapo Church with Fr. Danichi Hui and Fr. Douglas Badong, parochial vicars.

According to Fr. Badong, the blessing was held for three days to avoid crowding at the church and in compliance with the protocol set by the government.

Earlier, Quiapo Church, for the second year announced the cancellation of the Black Nazarene for 2022 because of the continuous rising of the cases of COVID-19 pandemic in the country. Instead, the church holds a “localized” celebration of the Nazareno Fiesta, where the image of the Black Nazarene will be brought to different places in the Archdiocese of Manila and neighboring dioceses.

As part of the preventive measure of the church, after the government placed Metro Manila on alert level 3 due to the surge of the Omricon variant of COVID-19, Quiapo Church announced its closure from January 3-6, 2022.
