Philippines to take active part on 52nd International Eucharistic Congress

On September 11, 2021, a Church in the Philippines will be hosting a virtual event during the gathering of the 52nd International Eucharistic Congress in Budapest, Hungary.

According to CBCP News, the event will be hosted by the Sta. Cruz Church. This was reported by Fr. Miguel Garcia, executive secretary of the bishops’ Permanent Committee on International Eucharistic Congresses (PCIEC).

“Sta. Cruz Church will be the center of the activity but all the talks will be pre-recorded and will be broadcast online,” Garcia said.

Most Rev. Dennis Villarojo, Bishop of Malolos, will be among the speakers. He was the secretary-general of the 51st International Eucharistic Congress in Cebu. Local events are also being prepared and the details will be announced soon.

In Budapest, the International Eucharistic Congress will start on September 5 and ends on September 12 to be led by Pope Francis.

Archbishop Jose Palma of Cebu said that he is planning to attend the global event. He also said that one of the Masses should be presided by the bishop of the previous host of the International Eucharistic Congress since it has been a tradition.

The first International Eucharistic Congress was held in France in 1881. Since then, it was held every four years in different cities in the world. The most recent congress was held in Cebu in 2016 with 12,000 delegates. (Fatima Llanza/RCAM-AOC | Photo from CBCP News website)
