The Catholic Church is determined in promoting the care and preservation of the environment amidst the continued abuse of the environment,
This was the message relayed by Rodne Galicha, Executive Director of Living Laudato Si Philippines in connection to the recent Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Plenary Assembly which discussed the urgent environmental concerns that the country is confronted with. The Living Laudato Si (LLS) movement aims to address the worsening environmental problem in the country and around the world.
According to Galicha, LLS Philippines continues to follow the guidelines set by the church on environmental protection such as ecological conversion.
“The Philippine Church is determined, committed and always ready to take action, and actually has taken bold actions, to defend life – the onus of our care for our Common Home,” Galicha told Radyo Veritas.
Galicha called on the faithful from the different parishes and basic ecclesiastical communities to continue to practice the teachings of Laudato Si and to be united and walk together in promoting different methods that will help the environment.
“We enjoin all our sisters and brothers, starting from our parishes and basic ecclesial communities to walk together in this journey, in synergy and ecological synodality,” said Galicha.
During the online Plenary Assembly held last January 24-29, CBCP issued a pastoral statement entitled “A Call for Unity and Action amid a Climate Emergency and Planetary Crisis”. (Jheng Prado/RCAM-AOC)
