Our faith in Jesus makes us influencers, says Cardinal Tagle to Pinoy WYD2023 group

In his message for the Philippine contingent to the 37th World Youth Day (WYD2023) in Portugal, His Eminence Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle reminded young Filipino pilgrims to be inspired by their faith as they utilize new means of communications to influence more people.

The pro-prefect of the Dicastery of Evangelization spoke before the country’s WYD2023 delegates to invite them to become social media influencers with the purpose of preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

“Please, young people of the Philippines, spread the influence of Jesus, the influence of truth, justice, caring for the earth, and caring for fellow human beings in the world called social media,” he said at the One Filipino Reunion gathering in Lisbon’s Igreja de Madalena on August 3.

Despite so much divisiveness, prejudice and discrimination in the world, Cardinal Tagle pointed out that this year’s gathering of young Catholics around the world is a testament that their faith in Jesus makes them real influencers.

“If the one influencing you is Jesus and the Gospel, go right ahead, influence other people through this social media, which is a world in itself,” the former archbishop of Manila stressed.

“We could be the seed of unity, communion, respect for human beings, respect for diversity, because we believe in Jesus Christ,” he added.

The Philippine Church is being represented by around 1,500 young people from different dioceses, religious congregations and lay organizations and headed by Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma and the chairman of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Youth and Daet Bishop Rex Andrew Clement Alarcon.
