Oldest Orphanage in the Philippines placed under Lockdown for COVID-19 outbreak

The Hospicio de San Jose Orphanage, the oldest charitable institution in the Philippines was placed in lockdown after the house recorded 23 of COVID-19 positive cases.

According to the official statement, the orphanage “has declared self-lockdown since March 15, 2020, but became stricter in its protocols since April 21, 2021, to mitigate and contain further infection of the COVID 19 to its residents and personnel with their families who have sought refuge in Hospicio since the lockdown”.

As of April 30, 2021, there are 23 confirmed cases now in isolation with no deaths related to COVID-19.

“All residents of Hospicio are on movement restrictions and are confined in their dormitories. Having reported these cases to the City Health Office of Manila, we are now being monitored by the City Health Emergency Center, following the IATF guidelines,” according to the statement.

Hospicio de San Jose, the charity arm of the Catholic Church is under the management of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul and has four major Programs: the Child and Youth Welfare and Development Program (87 children/youth); the Program for Persons with Special Needs (48 PSN); the Program for Older Persons (65 OPs) and the Crisis Intervention Program (with 29 abused & exploited children, 150 homeless individuals/families and 2 persons in crisis situations).
