New Bishop of Malaybalay Installed

Most Rev. Noel P. Pedregosa was ordained and installed as the new bishop of Malaybay in Bukidnon on September 14 at 9:00 am at the San Isidro Labrador Cathedral.

In his homily during his first mass as bishop, he expressed his gratitude for the “gift of episcopacy… in spite of my unworthiness, weakness, and sinfulness”.

He then urges the faithful to pray for the clergy and him that he may have “a shepherding of listening, dialogue, love, gentle correction, and appreciation; a shepherding of humility and openness; a shepherding of intimate friendships and holiness”.

“May my shepherding be a shepherding of giving special attention to the four L’s — the least, the last, the lost, and those who are not in the list — giving special attention to our common home, our Mother Earth,” said the Bishop.

The celebration was led by Bishop Jose Cabantan, Archbishop of Cagayan de Oro, with Archbishop Angelito Lampon of Cotabato and Bishop Raul Dael of Tandag as co-consecrators.

Bishop Pedregosa was the Rector of San Isidro Labrador cathedral and the administrator of the diocese, which has been sede vacante since August 2020.

He will be the fifth bishop Malaybalay, succeeding Bishop Jose Cabantan who was appointed by Pope Francis as the Archbishop of Cagayan de Oro last year.

His Holiness, Pope Francis appointed Pedregosa as the new bishop of the Diocese of Malaybay on June 29 in Rome at 12:00 noon and 6:00 pm Philippine time. It was also announced by the Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Charles Brown during the celebration of the Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul or Pope’s Day at the Manila Cathedral.
