Nazareno 2024: “Ang tunay na deboto ay modelo”

Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula presided over the Misa Mayor of the Feast of the Black Nazarene at the Quirino Grandstand at midnight.

In his homily, Cardinal Advincula emphasized three lessons that influence our “becoming witnesses” of Jesus Nazareno : “Makita si Hesus, makita ni Hesus, at maipakita si Hesus.”

Kapag nakita niya tayo tatangkilikin niya tayo, tutulungan niya tayo, sasamahan niya tayo, at bibiyaan niya tayo,” he said.

Called to reveal Jesus in their midst, devotees are encouraged to be role models. Cardinal Advincula is hopeful that as they carry the weight of their devotion to Señor, the closeness of the relationship involves a deep faith and common responsibility to one another.

After the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, Fr. Jun Sescon, rector of Quiapo Church thanked all those who became part of the planning and preparation of Nazareno 2024. He also reminded the sea of devotees at the Qurino Grandstand to maintain the sacredness and solemnity of the celebration especially in Traslacion.

According to Quiapo Church Command Post, as of 7:44 am, an estimated 830,000 devotees join in the procession and 11,000 in Quiapo Church.

The Feast of the Black Nazarene is a religious event celebrated in the Philippines particularly in Manila every ninth of January. Part of the celebration is the Traslacion where people from different parts of the country participated in a grand procession to honor the Black Nazarene from Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo Church. The Black Nazarene is a life-sized image of Jesus Christ carrying the cross.

The theme for this year’s Nazareno 2024 celebration is “Ibig po naming Makita si Hesus (John 12:21).” (Hazel Boquiren and Jheng Prado/RCAM-AOC | Photo by Maricar Santos/RCAM-AOC | Photogallery: Mass and Faces of Faith)
