Krus ng Ating Kaligtasan, Ating Pag-asa sa Panahon ng Pandemya (Kambal na Krus Chapel Community Fiesta 2021)

500:99 We celebrate with grateful hearts the 500 Years Anniversary of Christianity in the Philippines and the 99th Founding Anniversary of the discovery of Kambal na Krus.  The icon, Kambal na Krus was founded by Crispino Lacandaso on March 23, 1922, at Raxabago Street, Gagalangin Tondo, Manila at around 5:00 o’clock in the afternoon.

Early January of this year, the Pamunuan ng Kambal na Krus Chapel with the guidance of its Parish Priest, Fr. Joselino B. Tuazon of St. Joseph Parish Gagalangin, since the chapel is under the territorial jurisdiction of the said parish, has started to brainstorm on how this year’s Fiesta will be celebrated.  As part of the usual function of the Pamunuan, they decided to focus on its liturgical celebrations.

The Community Fiesta of Kambal na Krus was held last March 20-21, 2021, with the theme: KRUS NG ATING KALIGTASAN, ATING PAG-ASA SA PANAHON NG PANDEMYA, the theme was formulated in conformity of the current situation of the nation and the whole world.  In his Fiesta message, Fr. (1 Juan 4:16).

To prepare the faithful to this great feast, a Triduum of Masses preceded the day of the Fiesta celebrated by Rev. Fr. Cloyd Anthony G. Elnar, Rev. Msgr. Gerardo O. Santos, and Rev. Fr. Conegundo B. Garganta.

On the day of its Bisperas ng Kapistahan, the Solemn High Mass was presided by the Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Manila, the Most Rev. Broderick S. Pabillo, D.D. In his homily, Bishop Pabillo reminded the faithful “Maitataas siya sa kaluwalhatian kasi siya ay itinaasa sa krus.  No pain no glory! Lalapit ang mga tao sa kanya, kaya ngayon tayo ay lumalapit sa kanya, kasi siya ay itinaas sa krus at siya ay itinaas sa bagong buhay ng muling pagkabuhay.”

On the day of its Fiesta, the 10:00 a.m. Solemn Mass was presided by Rev. Fr. Leo V. Casas, while the 5:00 p.m. Pontifical Fiesta Solemn Mass was presided by the Auxiliary Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Antipolo, Most Rev. Nolly C. Buco, D.D., concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Joselino B. Tuazon, Parish Priest, and Rev. Fr. Conegundo B. Garganta of CBCP-ECY.

During the Pontifical Mass, Fr. Tuazon announced that the Archdiocese of Manila, in light of the recent pronouncement of the IATF will suspend the Masses in the Archdiocese beginning March 22, 2021, to halt the spread of the virus.  The community thanked the Lord for the opportunity that he has given the faithful to be able to gather around the table of the Eucharist to offer grateful praises to the Lord for the gift of the Icon of Salvation, the Kambal na Krus, before this decision is imposed on the churches.

We continue to storm the gates of heaven with our fervent prayers as we battle this pandemic, getting the much needed strength and inspiration from the message of the Cross that symbolizes salvation. (Eijay Valerio de Paz/SOCOM/St. Joseph Parish/Vicariate of Espiritu Santo)
