Mary as model for the 500 Years of Christianity

In preparation for the Centennial Anniversary of Christianity in the Philippines, Most Rev. Broderick S. Pabillo, Apostolic Administrator of Manila, explained that the Blessed Virgin Mary is a model of mission in spreading the Good News.  The year 2021 is also called the Year of Missio Ad Gentes (Mission to the Nations).

On December 12, 2020, Bishop Pabillo presided the noon fiesta mass with the theme, "Birhen ng Guadalupe - Pag-asang Tanglaw, Inang nagbubuklod sa bawat isa" at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Makati City.

According to Veritas News, the Bishop in his homily on the Solemnity of Our Lady of Guadalupe stated that Catholics must spread the light, hope and faith given by God to each and one of us.

He also pointed out that Mary is actually the "first Evangelizer" when she first brought the Good News in the form of apparitions to different countries such as Latin America, India, and Mexico.

According to the Bishop, there are 2 aspects of the mission for Catholics - the mission to evangelize by proclaiming the Good News and the mission to serve and help those who are in need.

During the pandemic, the Catholic Church continues to bring the Good News to every family with their online live streaming of Holy Masses. While Caritas Manila and parishes in the Archdiocese of Manila conduct donation drives to extend help and assistance to the poor and needy. (Fatima Llanza/RCAM-AOC)
