On September 28, 2020, Pope Francis appointed Archbishop Brown as Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines and is expected to present his credentials to the Philippine government anytime soon.

Archbishop Brown worked for the Congregation for the Faith from 1994 up to his appointment as nuncio. He became a Chaplain of His Holiness in May 2006. He was appointed Adjunct Secretary of the International Theological Commission in September 2009.

The 61-year old archbishop was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland on November 26, 2011, and Apostolic Nuncio to Albania on March 9, 2017. He was consecrated Archbishop on January 6, 2012, by Pope Benedict XVI.

He replaced Archbishop Gabriele Caccia, who now heads the Holy See’s Permanent Observer Mission in the United Nations in New York.

An apostolic nuncio (also known as a papal nuncio or simply as a nuncio) is an ecclesiastical diplomat, serving as an envoy or a permanent diplomatic representative of the Holy See to a state or to an international organization.

A nuncio is appointed by and represents the Holy See, and is the head of the diplomatic mission, called an Apostolic Nunciature, which is the equivalent of an embassy. (Jheng Prado/RCAM-AOC)
