Mass Schedules to be adjusted for the "New Normal"

In his Pastoral Instruction "Protocol for Religious Services," Most Rev. Broderick Pabillo, Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Manila proposed the adjustment of mass schedules of parishes when the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) is lifted in NCR.

Bishop Pabillo explained that Sunday Masses will have to be lessened to give way for 30-minutes intervals which will be the period to sanitize the church after each service.

Live streaming of the Eucharistic Celebration will continue especially for those who are limited to participate physically due to health considerations or other circumstances, according to the bishop.

"The presence of difficulty, and in some cases impossibility, of fulfilling the Sunday obligation renders the obligation suspended during these extraordinary circumstances," the bishop said.  "While Sunday and weekday Masses will already be celebrated in parishes, the live streaming of Masses, at least on Sundays, will continue for those who are unable to participate in the community celebrations due to sickness, old age, fear and caution."

The prelate recommends that the Mass Schedules such as an anticipated mass on Saturdays be moved to 3 pm to accommodate more masses. It is, however, optional for parishes to have more than 2 masses on Saturdays. This is to give the faithful more options as to which mass they would attend in fulfilling their Sunday obligation.

Baptisms are advisable to have more schedules to avoid big gatherings in the churches, especially on Sundays. (Hazel Boquiren/RCAM-AOC)
