Feast of the Ascension: A Message of Unity, Openness, and Hope

In a homily delivered on the Feast of the Ascension at Mary Mirror of Justice Parish, Manila Archbishop Jose F. Cardinal Advincula emphasized three key lessons from Christ’s ascension: unity, openness, and hope.

Cardinal Advincula reminded the congregation that Jesus’ ascension did not signify abandonment, but rather a profound expression of unity with humanity. He encouraged everyone to embrace unity and reject the temptation to elevate oneself at the expense of others.

“Sa maluwalhating pag-akyat ni Hesus sa langit, iniwan ba tayo ni Hesus?  Iniwan ba ni Hesus ang sangkatauhan?  Hindi.  Sa halip, isinasama tayong lahat ni Hesus sa langit.  Ang pagkatao natin ay dinadala ni Hesus sa langit.  Sa pagkakatawang-tao ni Hesus, bumababa ang langit sal upa.  Sa pag-akyat naman nya sa langit, dinala nya ang lupa sa langit.”

The Cardinal also stressed the importance of openness to God, urging the faithful to reveal their true selves, including their fears, sorrows, anger, and pain. He assured them that God acknowledges their entire truth and invites them to open their hearts to Him.

Furthermore, Cardinal Advincula highlighted the hope that God has for humanity. He emphasized that the ascension is a celebration of God’s hope for the transformation and renewal of humanity. He encouraged everyone to embrace this hope and strive for truth and goodness.

Drawing inspiration from the parish’s hymn to Mary, “Mirror of Justice,” Cardinal Advincula pointed to Mary as a model of unity, openness, and hope. He urged the faithful to follow Mary’s example and allow their hearts and minds to ascend to heaven.

The Cardinal concluded his homily by calling on the congregation to rejoice in Jesus’ ascension and embrace the spirit of unity, openness, and hope. He prayed that Mary, Mirror of Justice, would intercede for them and guide them towards a deeper understanding of these virtues.
