Discipleship not just for “feel good” affirmation

Being a disciple of Christ and servant of the Church should not just be about self-fulfillment affirmation or “feeling good”.

This was the reminder of His Eminence, Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, on being a Christian during his online Sunday Mass at the Pontificio Collegio Filippino in Rome last Sunday, July 4, 2021.

According to Veritas News, Cardinal Tagle stated that service and having deep faith in Him should be considered as an astonishing grace that serves as the guide for a peaceful life.

“For all the baptized, for all your day, for all the religious we are followers of Christ not because we want just to enjoy ourselves and to find a form of self-fulfillment where I am affirmed, where what I want I get, no. Our following of Christ and our assumption of mission simply rest on the grace of the Lord, it all started with His grace, the mysterious grace it has chosen us and it is the power of that grace that will sustain us,” said the Cardinal.

He also explained that individuals must rejoice despite the struggles in life.

The Love of God, according to Cardinal Tagle, is powerful thus it is appropriate to receive the graces of the Lord and to trust in the mission that He has a plan for each life. Cardinal Tagle insisted that this is the only way to experience the graces of the Lord.

“Let us be joyful that even in our weakness, even in the non-acceptance of us as the bearer of the word we have Jesus who is with us and His power is with us but we make sure we check our motivations so that His grace will work truly, genuinely and powerfully,” he added.
