Catholic Church joins giving final respects to Queen Elizabeth II

On September 8, 2022, at the age of 96, Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of England passed away.

In a telegram late Thursday, Pope Francis expressed his sadness and mourns the death of the leader of the United Kingdom of Great Britain.

“Deeply saddened to learn of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, I offer heartfelt condolences to Your Majesty, the Members of the Royal Family, the People of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth,” the Pope said.

“I willingly join all who mourn her loss in praying for the late Queen’s eternal rest, and in paying tribute to her life of unstinting service to the good of the Nation and the Commonwealth, her example of devotion to duty, her steadfast witness of faith in Jesus Christ and her firm hope in his promises.”

The chairman of the CBCP-Episcopal Office on Women, Bishop Crispin Varquez, remembered the meaningful seven decade reign of Queen Elizabethe II.

“Queen Elizabeth II was a woman of faith. She made Jesus the center of her life. She valued humanity,” Bishop Varquez said in his message to Radio Veritas.

Queen Elizabeth II pushed for religious freedom in the United Kingdom. Despite being under a monarchy, the people are free to express their respective faith.

“She gained high respect and admiration of the many peoples in the world. Her power as a woman was not based on arms and wealth but on her character and values,” Bishop Varquez said.

His Eminence Cardinal Advincula called the passing of the late monarch ‘end of an era’ because of her long period of reigning as queen.

“We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the Royal Family, the citizens of Great Britain and the Commonwealth for the loss of their Sovereign, Her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth II. We offer prayers for Her Majesty and her loved ones. Her passing leaves a void in our collective minds and hearts and marks the end of an era, “Cardinal Advincula’s said in his message on Radio Veritas.

The Cardinal described her as an honest daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother to her family despite her Royal duties over Great Britain and the Commonwealth.

Last June 2, 2022 the Queen celebrated her Platinum Jubilee or the 70th anniversary of her Reign since her installation in 1952 at the age of 25 after the passing of her father King Geroge VI.

Queen Elizabeth II is the head of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth and the Supreme Governor when she took the crown from her sister Mary in 1558, after which the royal family has practiced Anglicanism, a form of Christianity.
