RE: RITES FOR HOLY WEEK AND PASCHAL TRIDUUM 2024

Dear Reverend Monsignori, Fathers, Brothers, and Sisters,

Greetings of peace in the Lord!

We are sending you herewith a copy of the rites for Holy Week and Paschal Triduum, prepared by the Archdiocesan Liturgical Commission, which you may use in your respective parishes and communities.

During Holy Week the Church celebrates the mysteries of salvation accomplished by Christ in the last days of his life on earth, beginning with his messianic entrance into Jerusalem. The Lenten season lasts until the Thursday of this week. The Easter Triduum begins with the evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper, is continued through Good Friday with the celebration of the passion of the Lord and Holy Saturday, reaches its summit in the Easter Vigil, and concludes with Vespers of Easter Sunday. The days of Holy Week, from Monday to Thursday inclusive, have precedence over all other celebrations. (Paschalis Solemnitatis, 27).

The greatest mysteries of redemption are celebrated yearly by the Church beginning with the evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday until Vespers of Easter Sunday. This time is called “the triduum of the crucified, buried and risen”[42]; it is also called the “Easter Triduum” because during it is celebrated the Paschal Mystery, that is, the passing of the Lord from this world to his Father. The Church by the celebration of this mystery, through liturgical signs and sacramentals, is united to Christ her Spouse in intimate communion (Paschalis Solemnitatis, 38).

Thank you very much. May you have a blessed and meaningful celebration of the Holy Week and the Paschal Triduum. Let us unite ourselves in prayer.

Sincerely in the Lord Jesus,

FR. CARMELO P. ARADA, JR.

FR. CARMELO P. ARADA, JR.

RE: CHRISM MASS (28 MARCH 2024)

Dear Reverend Monsignori, Fathers, Brothers, and Sisters,

Greetings of peace in the Lord!

This is to invite you to the celebration of Chrism Mass on Holy Thursday, 28 March 2024 at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception (Manila Cathedral). Morning Prayer will begin at 6:30 AM and the Mass will be at 7:00 AM.

Kindly be guided by the following reminders:

1. Priests’ entrance will be at the gate along Cabildo Street, in front of Laiko building. Vesting will be at the vestibule. Priests are requested to wear their alb or cassock.
2. After vesting, ushers will lead them to their seats. Jubilarians who will join the entrance procession will be requested to stay at the Christ the King Chapel.
3. The Cathedral will be open to all who wish to participate in this year’s Chrism Mass. There will be LED monitors and speakers outside the Cathedral for those who cannot be accommodated anymore inside the Cathedral.
4. The religious and all lay people will enter through the main door of the Manila Cathedral. The doors will open at 4:30 AM.
5. After the Mass, priests are requested to leave their vestments on their seats.
6. The Holy Oils may be collected as priests exit through the left transept doors. Only Oils for parishes, shrines, mission stations, and chaplaincies will be distributed. Personal supply of the Oils may be requested from the Manila Cathedral after Holy Week.

We request the priests to personally secure the said Oils. Representatives tasked to get the Oils should kindly present a Letter of Authorization signed by the parish priest, rector, or chaplain.

Be assured of our support and prayers for all your pastoral endeavors for the furtherance of God’s Kingdom.

Most sincerely in Christ,
