Caritas Manila provides P4.7M assistance to victims of earthquake

On July 27, 2022, at 8:43 in the morning, a magnitude 7 earthquake hit the mountainous province of Abra that caused landslides and collapse of structures.

In response, Caritas Manila, the social arm of the Archdiocese of Manila, has distributed more than P4.7 million pesos in aid to 2 dioceses that were the most affected by the magnitude 7 earthquake in Northern Luzon. These dioceses are the Diocese of Bangued in Abra and the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia in Ilocos Sur.

Caritas Manila first sent P2.29-million pesos worth of non-food items that were immediately delivered to the two Dioceses after the earthquake.

Bangued Abra Bishop Leopoldo Jaucian and Nueva Caceres Archbishop Marlo Peralta were grateful for the immediate assistance of Caritas Manila to the victims of the earthquake in their area.

“First of all, thanks especially to Caritas Manila. This is my first feeling of gratitude for your solidarity with us. We are really experiencing this but it is unexpected that your arrival is proof of what the Holy Pope says that we travel together, friends, travelers in life thank you very much” Bishop Jaucian told Radio Veritas.

“Fr. Anton [Pascual] thank you! you called us after the earthquake and asked what you can do to help and we know that you are there ready to help, we thank you through Caritas [Manila], this is our appeal again, I hope your help will continue for our Priests” said Archbishop Peralta.

Archbishop Peralta also urged the faithful to continue to show cooperation, especially in these times of difficulties. Caritas Manila continues to provide assistance and help not only to the victims of disasters but also to the poor and marginalized people in society.
