As the entire country celebrated the feast day of Santo Niño last January 21, 2024, His Eminence Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle, Pro-Prefect for the Section of First Evangelization and New Particular Churches of the Dicastery of Evangelization, presided over the Concluding Mass of the Philippine Conference on New Evangelization (PCNE X) at the Quadricentennial Pavilion of University of Santo Tomas, España.
In his homily, Cardinal Tagle reflected upon how Jesus, as a child, was vulnerable yet He willingly journeyed along with the little ones. Also, he emphasized how Jesus was dependent on the Father by being a child because He decided to walk humbly with him by being obedient to His will which is the heart towards the ‘Synodal path’.
“Ang pagiging Sanggol ni Hesus ay patunay na ang kanyang pagkakatawang tao ay ang kanyang pakikipaglakbay sa bawat isa sa atin. Ito ay pakikipaglakbay na hinuhubad ang lahat ng makasariling dangal. At sa pagpapakababa ay handang makipaglakbay kasama ang mga kapatid na hamak,” he said.
“You walk with others but you always walk with your Father in heaven. It’s the Father that will tell you your time, your hour. It is the Father that will teach you where to go. Part of Synodality is walking always as directed by the Father. Yan ang nakita natin sa Child Jesus. He remained a child even at the age of 33. Nagpapaakay sa kanyang Diyos Ama,” he added.
Cardinal Tagle emphasized that Synodality ultimately requires walking humbly with the child Jesus, especially for the faithful to lead the children to Jesus in their path, with the goal of allowing them to experience in a profound manner the blessing of God’s Kingdom.
“The Synodal path is a humble walk shown to us by the son of God. It is a walk with the humble people. It is a walk with God the Father. And it is a walk that brings the little ones, everyone to Jesus and not preventing especially the simple ones from walking towards Jesus. That’s the experience of the Kingdom of God,” the cardinal said.
The last day of PCNE X highlighted the fruits of the concurrent workshops and sessions of the participants, including the prayer ritual of Sinulog. Also, the commissioning followed after the Eucharistic Celebration by giving the Nazareno necklace to their fellow participants beside their seats which was accompanied with a prayer.
