Cardinal Tagle Stresses the Importance of Nurturing Vocations at Home

During his address to the 80th Serra International Convention in Chiang Mai, Thailand, Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle underlined the critical role of families in cultivating vocations. The pro-prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, speaking by video from Rome, emphasized the link between the vocations issue and the missionary crisis, which often begins in the home.

When parents fail to fulfill their role of imparting the faith and bringing their children to Jesus, a vocational crisis is likely, according to the cardinal. He advised parents to actively lead their children to Jesus and to be role models of a life worth imitating.

“Vocations begin at home, and so does the crisis,” Cardinal Tagle said, emphasizing the importance of the family unit in developing religious vocations. He urged families to emphasize Jesus as the ultimate goal, emphasizing that true happiness can only be found by placing Him at the center of their life.

The ongoing Serra International Convention has attracted roughly 450 attendees from all over the world. The Congregation for the Clergy oversees Serra International, the sole lay group linked with the Pontifical Work for Vocations to the Priesthood. Since its inception in the United States in 1935, the group has been vital in encouraging lay vocation apostolate, with over 20,000 members worldwide.

Furthermore, Cardinal Tagle emphasized the need of active participation in preaching the gospel of Jesus. He underlined the importance of having a vocation that seeks out others and brings them to Jesus. A profession that does not aim to draw people closer to Jesus, on the other hand, risks stagnation and deterioration.

The cardinal’s speech served as a reminder of the inextricable link between vocation and mission. He urged persons who profess to have a vocation to actively seek out others and motivate them to follow Jesus in a collaborative effort to promote vocations.

Participants are expected to participate in debates and workshops targeted at strengthening Serra International’s purpose as the convention progresses. The gathering offers the prospect of contributing to the expansion and strengthening of religious vocations globally, thanks to their united dedication and the Cardinal’s powerful message reverberating.
