Cardinal Tagle leads blessing of new chapel in Araneta City

Former Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle and now pro-prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization in Rome led the celebration of the Holy Eucharist and blessing of Sagrada Familia Church, a new chapel located on the fifth floor of Gateway Mall 2 in Araneta City, Cubao, Quezon City last September 16, 2023.

The newly built chapel is a modern minimalist design chapel that has the shape of a miter like the one worn on the heads of Bishops and has a thousand seating capacity.

On the upper part of the altar is the image of Jesus Christ hanging on the cross which was created by Willy Layug, a famous sculptor.

In his homily, the Cardinal elaborated that chapels built in establishments are one of the means to further expand and spread the Word of God to many people. The celebration of religious activities inside the chapel he added, also deepens the faith and trust of the people in the Lord.

“We should remember that divine worship or sacred celebrations like sacraments and liturgies are meant to do two major things: first is to glorify God, to worship God, to adore God. So, that aspect should not be forgotten,” Cardinal Tagle said.

“And secondly, in a holy place like this, especially during religious activities and sacraments most especially, as we glorify God, God sanctifies us,” he added.

The Cardinal was joined in the Mass by Fathers Ariston Sison, Jr., Ronnie Santos, Tony Labiao, and Tito Caluag.

Also in attendance were the Araneta family, Araneta Group officials, and employees of Araneta Center Mall. (Jheng Prado/RCAM-AOC | Photo by maricar Santos/RCAM-AOC | Photogallery)
