H.E. Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, encouraged the faithful to promote environmental care. This was his message during the National Laudato Si Program launched by the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines – National Secretariat for Social Action or Caritas Philippines and Global Catholic Climate Movement – Pilipinas.
According to Cardinal Tagle, the program is not only to share necessary actions for the environment but also to take part in promoting the rights and the essential care to our natural resources.
“Hindi lang ito pagkakataon para lang magkaroon tayo ng green rhetoric. No! Kailangan po may ecological conversion. Mayroon ding conversion to ecological justice at may action,” said Cardinal Tagle.
He then encouraged everyone to continue praying for our environment which serves as a home for all living things. But just as important, the Cardinal pointed out that this is also a chance to help those who are in need.
“We have the capacity to share with other people,” he added.
Cardinal Tagle emphasized removing the concept of “possessing natural resources”. Instead, one should understand and see one’s self as a responsible citizen who advocates the protection of our home. (Fatima Llanza/RCAM-AOC)
