Cardinal Grech: I came to preach but I was preached

His Eminence Mario Cardinal Grech, Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops, presided over the Eucharistic celebration at the Mary Mother of Hope Mission Station, Landmark, Makati City last January 26.

In his homily, Cardinal Grech affirmed the presence of mall chapels. He asked the faithful to reflect on God’s love, which enables them to make a difference, not only for themselves, but also for others in their respective communities.

“Today I was introduced to the new way of the Church’s presence in your society. Something I admire and I commend your pastors for this initiatives but I question, don’t have an answer, you have an answer. We are the anointed. We have been entrusted with the mission,” he said.

“The seed of God has been sown in our heart. The grace of God, the love of God but do we make a difference? Do we make a difference in our personal life, in our family life in this particular context?” he added.

In the light of being a Synodal Church, Rev. Fr. Regie Malicdem, Mission Station Priest of Mary Mother of Hope Chapel, pointed out that the Church’s significant presence in this chapel is an asset to evangelization.

“Mall chapels and mall communities are our unique ways of living out Synodality because the people are here, the Church should be here. This is a place of convergence, of encounter, which offers great opportunities for evangelization,” he said.

Cardinal Grech visited the Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Chapel in SM and Mary Mother of Hope Mission Station in Landmark as part of his pastoral visit in the Philippines.
