On June 24, 2021, Solemnity of the Birth of St. John the Baptist, Jose F. Cardinal Advincula will be installed as the new Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Manila.
Cardinal Advincula, formerly assigned as Archbishop of Capiz, was appointed by His Holiness Pope Francis as the 33rd Archbishop of Manila on March 25, 2021.
The Solemn Installation and celebration of the Holy Mass will be held at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception or Manila Cathedral in Intramuros, Manila at 9 in the morning. On that day, the 450th anniversary of founding the City of Manila and of the first parish in Manila, that will later become the Manila Cathedral, will also be celebrated.
The Mass will be attended by the bishops of the Philippines, the clergy of the Archdiocese of Manila, the clergy from the Archdiocese of Capiz, government officials, representatives of religious men and women, the Council of the Laity of the Archdiocese of Manila, the family and guests of Cardinal Advincula.
The rite will include the solemn liturgical reception of Cardinal Advincula, the reading of the Apostolic Letter from Pope Francis, the seating at the cathedra, and the renewal of the priestly promises of the clergy of Manila to the new Archbishop. Cardinal Advincula will deliver the homily as his first preaching as Archbishop of Manila.
According to a press release by the Chancery Office of the Archdiocese of Manila, there will be a series of events to welcome the new Archbishop. These events will give the different groups and sectors in the Archdiocese of Manila the opportunity to welcome the new Archbishop while restrictions are imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and health protocols are strictly observed.
Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Domagoso and Administrator of Intramuros Administration Atty. Guiller Asido will formally welcome Cardinal Advincula at the Postigo Gate, a historic gate that was used exclusively by the Archbishops of Manila and Governors-General of the Philippines during the Spanish times, at 8 in the morning on June 24.
A Civic Ceremony will be held at the Ayuntamiento, the old city hall of Manila that now houses the Bureau of the Treasury, at 8:30 in the morning with the presence of the five mayors of the cities within the Archdiocese of Manila, namely, Manila, Makati, Mandaluyong, Pasay and San Juan.
The press release also stated that all the participants and guests in all the events have been identified beforehand so that the allowed number of persons in the venue will not exceed.
On June 25, 2021 (Friday), Cardinal Advincula will be joined by the Laity of the Archdiocese of Manila in Mass that he will preside at the Manila Cathedral, at 9 in the morning. This will include representatives from the parishes, organizations, movements, and young people.
He will preside at a Solemn Vespers (Evening Prayer) also at the Manila Cathedral on June 26, 2021 (Saturday), at 5 in the afternoon with the consecrated men and women in the Archdiocese of Manila.
Cardinal Advincula will visit Maricaban in Pasay City on June 27, 2021 (Sunday) and will preside at a Mass at the Mary, Comforter of the Afflicted Parish, at 9 in the morning
The series of events for the installation and welcoming of the new Archbishop of Manila will be aired on TV Maria (Cable Channels: Sky Cable channel 210, Cignal cable channel 188, Cablelink channel 18, and Sat lite channel 102). It will also be broadcasted via the Facebook pages of the Manila Cathedral, RCAM SOCOM platforms namely TV Maria, Radio Veritas and Archdiocesan Office of Communications, and parishes of the Archdiocese of Manila.
