Cardinal Advincula: San Juan Nepomuceno, a faithful and brave martyr of the Church

This was the excerpt of the homily of Manila Archbishop Jose F. Cardinal Advincula as he emphasized San Juan Nepomuceno, who offered his life as a martyr, and protected the sacredness of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

The Cardinal presided over the Fiesta Mass at San Juan Nepomuceno Parish Malibay, Pasay City last May 16, 2024, at 6 in the evening.

In his homily, Cardinal Advincula affirmed that as one Church, Jesus’ life reflected in the Paschal Mystery, is the driving force to offer oneself for the goodness of His grace to mankind.

Cardinal Advincula challenged the faithful that following Christ leads to contemplating our self-driven desires that enables us to open oneself for common responsibility towards one another.

Constant dying to self for the sake of the beloved.  We can only give life when we constantly die to our selfishness, our whims and our ambitions. Makapagbibigay-buhay lamang tayo kung handa tayo laging pumanaw sa sarili,” he said.

The Misa Mayor at 9 in the morning was presided by the Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, Archbishop Charles John Brown, followed by the procession of the image of young St. John Nepomucene.
