The National Youth Day (NYD) will finally take place in Naga City in July 2025, three years after its postponement.
According to CBCP News, the Archdiocese of Caceres will be hosting the gathering of Catholic youths for the first time and is expecting thousands of pilgrims across the country.
The Caceres Youth Commission said, in a social media post, “Young pilgrims of hope, come to the pilgrim city.”
Having been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the NYD was supposed to be held in 2021 as part of the celebration of 500 years of Christianity in the Philippines.
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) declared in 1986 that every December 16 is National Youth Day.
The NYD gatherings, at a national level, were held in Manila starting 1987 while local events took place in dioceses and parishes from 1991 to 1997.
National celebrations of NYD have been held every two or three years since 1998; with the most recent gathering being in Cebu City in April 2019 with 20,000 delegates present. (By Louise Nazir A. Banzuela/SOCOM-San Felipe Neri Parish | Photo File: RCAM-AOC)
