Archdiocese of Manila all set for new Archbishop’s Installation

The Archdiocese of Manila has been preparing for the installation of Jose F. Cardinal Advincula, the 33rd Archbishop of Manila on June 24, 2021, Solemnity of the Birth of St. John the Baptist, at the Manila Cathedral at 8:00 in the morning.

In a virtual press briefing on June 16, 2021, Bishop Broderick Pabillo, Apostolic Administrator of Manila said the Archdiocese of Manila has prepared series of events during and after the installation of Cardinal Advincula.

According to the Bishop, a nine-day spiritual preparation for the coming of Cardinal Advincula and a series of catechetical videos on the role of the archbishop and cardinal started last June 15, 2021.

“Una po pinaghahandaan po natin ung pagtanggap natin sa archbishop mula po kahapon. May nine-day preparation po tayo. Nine days na ipinagdarasal po natin ang ating bagong archbishop. This is a spiritual activity, ang pagbibigay sa atin ng shepherd, kaya sinasamahan natin ng panalangin,” Bishop Pabillo said.

“At sa loob ng siyam na araw na ito, mayroon din tayong katekesis, mayroon din tayong konting pag aaral na hinanda sa ating ng ating catechetical ministry. Pinapakita ano ba ang role ng archbishop, ano ba ang gawaain ng isang cardinal, pagkatapos yung mga responsibilidad natin sa pagtanggap sa kanya (Cardinal Advincula),” he added.

On June 24, at 8 in the morning, Cardinal Advincula will be formally welcomed to Intramuros by Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Domagoso and the Intramuros Administrator at the Postigo Gate, a historic gate that was used exclusively by the Archbishops of Manila and Governors-General of the Philippines during the Spanish times.

The 33rd Archbishop of Manila will head towards a Civic Reception to be held at the Ayuntamiento, the old city hall of Manila that now houses the Bureau of the Treasury where he will be accompanied by representatives from different groups in the church namely, Knights of Columbus, Order of Malta and Equestrian order of Jerusalem. He will be welcomed by the five mayors of the cities within the Archdiocese of Manila namely, Manila, Makati, Mandaluyong, Pasay and San Juan.

The Solemn Installation and celebration of the Holy Eucharist will be at 9 in the morning at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception or Manila Cathedral where it will be attended by four hundred guests which include the Bishops in the Philippines, clergy of the Archdiocese of Manila and Clergy of the Archdiocese of Capiz, government officials, representatives from religious men and women, laity and family and guests of Cardinal Advincula.

The following day, June 25, the newly installed Archbishop of Manila will celebrate Mass at Manila Cathedral, at 9 in the morning with the laity of the Archdiocese. On June 26, he will lead the Solemn Vespers or Evening Prayer with the consecrated men and women in the Archdiocese of Manila, at 5 in the afternoon. On June 27, he will visit Maricaban in Pasay City and will preside at a Mass at the Mary, Comforter of the Afflicted Parish, at 9 am.
