In light of the declaration of the Holy Father, Pope Francis, of the Year of St. Joseph from December 8, 2020, to December 8, 2021, through the Apostolic Letter “Patris Corde”, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila held the Launching of the Year of St. Joseph in the archdiocese yesterday, 24 January 2021. The event was highlighted with the Eucharistic Celebration presided by its Apostolic Administrator, the Most Rev. Broderick S. Pabillo, D.D. at Santuario de San Jose Parish, East Green Hills, Mandaluyong City. The event also marked the 150th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Saint Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church.
The Mass was concelebrated by the Provincial Superior of the Oblates of St. Joseph, Rev. Fr. Jayson Endaya, OSJ, and some of the OSJ fathers. Along with them are the parish priests of the churches under the patronage of St. Joseph, namely: Rev. Fr. Joselino B. Tuazon of St. Joseph Parish Gagalangin, Rev. Fr. Artemio P. Fabros of San Jose Manggagawa Parish in Manuguit, Rev. Fr. Anthony Olaguer III, LRMS of San Jose de Trozo Parish, Rev. Msgr. Roberto A. Espenilla of St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Palanan, Makati and Rev. Fr. Gebert Cabaylo, OSJ, Parochial Vicar of Santuario de San Jose Parish in East Green Hills. Also present was Rev. Fr. Rolando Garcia, Minister of the Ministry of the Biblical Apostolate of the Archdiocese of Manila as the Philippine Catholic Church celebrates the National Bible Sunday. Various parish representatives from the said parishes were also present.
In his homily, Bishop Pabillo said that he envisions to establish an association of men, devotees of St. Joseph that will give importance to paternity like St. Joseph did to his holy family.
The bishop also hinted at establishing a Labor Desk, which is timely as this year is the 30th anniversary of the 2nd Plenary Council of the Philippines (PCP II) which took place in 1991. One of the more important decrees of PCP II is to establish a Labor Desk in each parish. “St. Joseph supported the Holy Family of Nazareth because of his work.” Bishop Pabillo calls to protect the work of the people, as well as guide and empower the laborers. And these will be the key functions of the Labor Desk. (Eijay Valerio de Paz, Social Communications Ministry, Vicariate of Espiritu Santo, Manila)
