Pope's Day Mass on June 29

Manila Archbishop Gaudencio B. Cardinal Rosales and Archbishop Edward Joseph Adams, Apostolic Nuncio in the Philippines will lead the faithful in the celebration of Pope’s Day through a Solemn Eucharist on June 29, 2009 at the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception (Manila Cathedral) at 5:00 pm.

This year’s Pope’s Day celebration will also be the occasion for the closing of the Pauline Year and the Opening of the Year of Priests for the Archdiocese of Manila.

The Pope is the head of the Vatican whose chief duty is to enrich the faith of the people with the Lord and to strengthen the union of the faithful in the Church and with Christ.

The celebration of Pope’s day begins as a way of intensifying and deepening the perception of the teachings of the Church as well as to have a wider and greater knowledge of the spiritual leadership of the Supreme Pontiff.

Celebration of the Holy Eucharist, confessions and praying of the Holy Rosary are some of the many ways to celebrate Pope’s day. In other countries, the writings about the Pope are distributed on the streets while others prepare talks, forum and video presentation showcasing and honoring the many contributions of the Holy Father.
