4 years of knowing Jesus and counting!

The fourth Pedro Calungsod Cate-quiz held at the Cardinal Sin Auditorium, Paco Catholic School on April 23, 2016 proved to be a successful and momentous event.

Contestants and supporters came from the Vicariates of San Fernando de Dilao (the venue host), Espiritu Santo, Sto. Niño, Sta. Clara de Montefalco, St. Joseph the Worker, Sts. Peter and Paul, Our Lady of Guadalupe, St. John the Baptist and San Felipe Neri, together with Archdiocesan Youth Organizations Movement (AYOM) and two sets of participants from the Campus Ministry.

The teams shared how they prepared for the annual Cate-quiz before the main event. Their experiences show the youth participants were able to appreciate prayer and learning at the same time nowadays.

The program started with the Doxology and National Anthem and the welcome remarks from Fr. Leo Ignacio, the Assistant Commissioner of Archdiocesan Commission on Youth (ACY).

Father Leo reminded the assembly that “what we have to attain is to know Jesus well.”

The elimination round was divided into two batches, batch A with the Vicariates of Sts. Peter and Paul, San Felipe Neri, Our Lady of Guadalupe, San Fernando de Dilao, St. Joseph the Worker, and Campus Ministry A. Batch B with AYOM, Campus Ministry B, Vicariates of Sta. Clara de Montefalco, Sto. Niño, Espiritu Santo and St. John the Baptist.

The teams that qualified for the semi-finals were: Campus Ministry A, Vicariates of San Felipe Neri, Sts. Peter and Paul, Sta. Clara de Montefalco, San Fernando de Dilao and Sto. Niño.

This year’s semi-final round had a new twist: a catechetical version of “Celebrity Bluff”, where the bluffers were ‘celebrities’ from their own parishes, campus or youth organization.

Another new twist for this year was the extemporaneous speech for the final round. The teams that qualified for this round were the Vicariates of Sts. Peter and Paul, San Felipe Neri and Sto. Niño.

The Vicariate of San Felipe Neri emerged as the champion for the 4th Pedro Calungsod Cate-quiz with Vicariates of Sts. Peter and Paul and Sto. Niño as first and second runner-ups respectively.

Again, it is proven that the faith of the youth in the Archdiocese of Manila does not only stay in books. May the four years of knowing Jesus through the Scriptures and doctrinal books continue to succeed! Janelle Dalida, San Isidro Labrador Parish
