Caritas Manila 60th Commemorative Coffee Table Book launching: LOVE for the Poor - The Story of Caritas Manila

Caritas Manila, the lead social services and development ministry of the Archdiocese of Manila, successfully launched its commemorative book, “Love for the Poor – The Story of Caritas Manila”, in celebration of 60 joyful years of serving the poor. The event was held last April 7, 2015 at the Ayala Museum with Ayala Corporation as sponsor through the generosity of Mr. Fernando Zobel De Ayala, Trustee of Caritas Manila.

The coffee table book tells the story of love received and given over the course of Caritas Manila's 6-decade journey of helping the poor and the vulnerable in our society.  This overwhelming love has enabled Caritas Manila to reach out and help people most in need in the areas of education, health, livelihood, restorative justice, crises intervention, and disaster relief and rehabilitation.

Mr. Ramon del Rosario Jr., Vice Chairman of Caritas Manila officially opened the program. A member of the book team and Board of Trustees of Caritas Manila, Atty. Gizela Gonzalez-Montinola gave a background of what the book is all about.

The first copy of the book was handed over by Rev. Fr Anton CT Pascual, Executive Director of Caritas Manila to His Eminence Luis Cardinal Tagle, Chairman of Caritas Manila.

In his speech, Cardinal Tagle gave a message to the beneficiaries of Caritas Manila, “We thank in a special way the many beneficiaries of Caritas projects. You are precious not only to the church, you are precious to the society, and this is the reason why there’s such project, a group, an institution called Caritas. We hope you don’t remain recipients of love. Generate love wherever you are and you’ll make this country a better place to live in.”

Cardinal Tagle and Rev. Fr. Anton CT Pascual gave a book to Ferrera family, one of the family-beneficiaries from Quiapo. Jessica Ferrera, daughter of Mr. Jessel and Carolina Ferrera and a Youth Servant Leader, graduated Cum Laude from Eugelio ‘Amang’ Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology (EARIST).

Diamond Solidarity Fund benefactors were also given Love for the Poor – Story of Caritas Manila books as token of gratitude for supporting Caritas Manila’s flagship program, YSLEP (Youth Servant Leadership and Education Program).

More than 150 friends and guests supported the event. All 60th commemorative books purchased during the event were signed by Cardinal Tagle and Dr. Isagani Cruz, author of the book.

Proceeds of the book will help sustain the Education Program of Caritas Manila, YSLEP: Youth Servant Leadership and Education Program. To date, Caritas Manila has helped over 10,000 graduates and continue to provide educational assistance, values formation workshops, and leadership trainings to almost 5,000 students nationwide.

Each book cost P5000.00 or to share more, you can also sponsor a YSLEP beneficiary for P12,000.00 per student in one school year.
