NOVENA AND ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT FOR POPE’S VISIT

TO: ALL PARISH PRIESTS, RECTORS, CHAPLAINS, AND DIRECTORS OF PARISHES, SHRINES, CHAPELS AND SCHOOLS IN THE ARCHDIOCESE OF MANILA

SUBJECT: NOVENA AND ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT FOR POPE’S VISIT

The arrival of the Holy Father Pope Francis in our country nears and it will be good for us to devote the nine days before he arrives to prayer and contemplation. Amid the excite that is building up and the crescendo of voices eager to be heard and the jockeying of people longing to be noticed,  we should take a moment to pause and prepare ourselves interiorly  to welcome Pope Francis and the grace he will bring into our hearts, into our local Church, and into our country.

Starting on January 6, 2015,  I enjoin you to hold a novena and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in your parish churches, shrines, chapels and schools for the special intention of the safety of Pope Francis in his travel to and stay in our country. Let us pray that he will be in good health at all times; that his trip from Rome to Sri Lanka and the Philippines will be pleasant and safe. Let us pray that in all the places that he will visit he will be met by the people there with warmth, openness, joy, hospitality, and generosity of spirit. The Archdiocesan Liturgical Commission, Manila has prepared the Liturgy Guide for the Novena and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. You may download it from our website, www.rcam.org.

I leave up to you the time of the day when you will hold the novena and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament but only to consider the time when many can come together in prayer in the church.

Let us use these days to properly dispose ourselves to the visit of the Vicar of Christ, so that we may hear what he will say to us; so that we can be moved by his words to follow Jesus and love Him by loving and serving others with mercy and compassion.

A blessed and peaceful New Year to all.
