Appointment of His Excellency Bishop Bernardino C. Cortez as the new Bishop Prelate of Infanta

27 October 2014

To the Clergy, Religious and Lay faithful of the Archdiocese of Manila,

At 12 noon today, October 27, 2014 (7:00 P.M. PhilippineTime), the Vatican announced the appointment of His Excellency Bishop Bernardino C. Cortez as the new Bishop Prelate of Infanta. We rejoice with the prelature of Infanta as they receive the gift of a new Pastor in the person of Bishop Bernard.  We in the Archdiocese of Manila congratulate Bishop Bernard as he responds to this new mission.  With our well wishes comes our thanksgiving.

Bishop Bernard has served the Archdiocese of Manila for ten years as an auxiliary bishop.  He has brought a humble, self-effacing, and childlike presence to his ministries in the Archdiocese.  He has testified to the need for prayerfulness and a profound respect for the conditions and sensibilities of human persons in pastoral life.  We are grateful to Bishop Bernard for having served wholeheartedly the faithful, priests, religious, and seminarians of the Archdiocese of Manila.

I urge everyone to pray for our Bishop Bernard and his ministry.  Let us also pray for the prelature of Infanta as it continues to respond to numerous pastoral challenges, especially those related to authentic human development, the situation of indigenous peoples, and stewardship of creation.

Bishop Bernard, the restful streams, serene hills and gentle people of Infanta bid you welcome.  As we sincerely thank you, we promise to keep you in our thoughts and prayers.  You will always have a home in Manila.
