Winners of Archdiocese of Manila Museum Painting Tilt on Exhibit

The Museo ng Arkidiyosesis ng Maynila (MANA) has an on-going exhibit of the winning artworks and finalists of the recently concluded painting competition of the Manila Archdiocesan Commission for the Cultural Heritage of the Church (MACC).

The top prizes went to the following: Ryan F. Caslib (First City Providential College, San Jose del Monte City), “Debosyon ng kabataang Pilipino”, first place; Edu P. Perreras (Holy Rosary parish, Angeles City), “Ala-ala sa likod ng lumang letrato”, second place; and Andrew D. Tan (FEATI), “Pundasyon”, third place.

Three jurors’ choice awards were given to: Alfredo V. Martirez (PUP Manila), “Supplicate @ Highway 54”; Chrisanto N. Aquino (San Juan Bautista parish, Tarlac), “Rebuilding faith, love, peace and unity”; and John Raphael D. Carloto (TUP), “Kasaysayan ng Simbahan na nais malaman”.

The annual competition seeks to foster contemporary artistic interpretation of the Catholic faith among young artists. It also seeks to promote awareness and appreciation of religious art.

This year, the contestants were asked to focus on the theme, “Ang Simbahan sa Kasaysayan”. The young artists were invited to depict a significant event in Philippine Church history.

The MANA, whose director is Fr. Albert Flores, is located at the third floor of the Arzobispado de Manila, 121 Intramuros, Manila. It is open from Monday to Friday, 9am-4pm. The exhibition runs until February 28.
