Season of Creation launched in Manila

The Archdiocese of Manila brings the care and protection of the environment to the spiritual level, by launching launch on August 31, 2013, the Season of Creation, also known in some countries as “Creation Time,” involving four to six Sundays from September 1 to October 4, the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, at the Paco Catholic School in Paco, Manila beginning at 1 p.m. (See program).  Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle will preside at the Mass to cap the launching at 5 p.m. at the San Fernando de Dilao Parish church.

The Season of Creation focuses on theology, worship and ethics that is directed towards God’s relationship with all creation and human beings’ relationship with creation (and with God through creation. During the Sundays of the season, the liturgy will celebrate the elements of creation. The first Sunday (September 1) will be on Fire. The rest of the Sundays will be on Water, Air, Earth/Soil, Halaman, and lastly, Tao.

During the launch Fr. Georg Ziselberger, SVD, president of GeoChrisFoundation, will give a theological reflection on “Season of Creation: Caring for God’s Creation Is Our Moral and Spiritual Responsibility.”

In having a Season of Creation, the Archdiocese of Manila aims to:

1.      Heighten public awareness on the situation of the environment
2.      Make people understand and imbibe Creation Spirituality
3.      Show how all creations are interdependent and interrelated
4.      Make Christians recognize and practice their being stewards of God’s creation
5.      Promote respect for and care of God’s creation.

During this special Church season, creation spirituality will be integrated in the liturgies. Parishes and communities will also have multi-media activities on environment, a cosmic living rosary (in October), organic markets, scrap collection for recycling, ecological Stations of the Cross, Resurrection, and Light, tree planting and fora on various environmental issues and concerns.
