We pray for our departed amidst temporary closure of cemeteries in Undas

Apostolic Administrator of Manila, Most Rev. Broderick S. Pabillo, has emphasized the importance of remembering their departed loved ones even though people are not permitted to visit cemeteries this year, as directive of the government to arrest the continuing spread of the Virus in the Philippines.

Bp. Pabillo clarified that the prohibition of visiting departed loved ones in the cemeteries is only temporary. This is a way to avoid the influx of people in the cemeteries and the rapid transmission of the virus especially in public places.

“Kahit na hindi kayo makabisita sa sementeryo, tandaan natin na ang mas mahalaga ay ang maalaala yung mga namatay at saka ipagdasal sila,” said the Bishop during the Pastoral Visit on-air of Barangay Simbayanan.

He then reminded the faithful that remembering and offering prayers for their departed loved ones can be done in their homes homes as well as attending mass in the Churches.

The bishop proposes that visiting cemeteries can be done, in accordance to health protocols and under regulation, in other days apart from November 1 and 2 as how the Catholic tradition has been observed.

“By coming to the cemetery, not necessarily on November 1 and November 2 so maybe before… or the whole month of November. Ang mahalaga maalala natin sila at ipagdadasal natin sila,” the bishop said.

Mayor Francisco “Isko" Moreno Domagoso of Manila has announced earlier the temporary closure of cemeteries, memorials parks, and columbariums in the city from October 31 to November 3. Last Sunday, 16 cities from Metro Manila have also decided to close cemeteries during the period of Undas to prevent the spread of the virus. (Fatima Llanza/RCAM-AOC)
