“Promote a culture of life,” Urges Cardinal Tagle

“With personal and collective study, prayer, discernment and action, we hope to be a people that promote a culture of life.”

Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle called on his flock to promote a culture of life as he released a circular letter inviting priests, religious communities and lay faithful of the Archdiocese of Manila to come and join the Eucharistic Celebration of Lakbay Buhay on the grounds of the University of Santo Tomas at 5:00 p.m. An inter-faith activity will also be held before the Mass at 4 p.m.

In his circular letter dated May 12, 2017, the Cardinal said Lakbay Buhay aims to “promote awareness and involvement regarding issues of life, especially the re-imposition of death penalty.”

He pointed out as well that Lakbay Buhay march is an example of an alternative to fight crimes but without violating the sanctity of life.

“The march that started in Mindanao to end up in the Philippine Senate gives us an opportunity to find ways of fighting crimes, for all crimes violate life, but without resorting to measures that also violate life, like capital punishment,” he said.

Lakbay Buhay Pilgrimage is a 21 days nationally coordinated cross country march caravan against death Penalty Bill led by the Catholic Church and multi-sectoral organizations.

The march which began on May 4 in Cagayan de Oro City passes through Cebu City, Tacloban City, Catarman, Sorsogon, Legaspi City, Naga City, Gumaca and Lucena City, Lipa City, Imus Cavite and Ateneo de Manila University. The march is expected to reach the Senate of the Philippines in Pasay City on May 24.

Earlier, Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo also invited the faithful to attend the said Eucharistic Celebration of Lakbay Buhay.
