Churches in the Archdiocese of Manila re-opens for Mass as GCQ is Implemented

(Updated)

In a message sent to Radyo Veritas by Most Rev. Broderick S. Pabillo, Apostolic Administrator of Manila, he said that the archdiocese will follow the rules of General Community Quarantine (GCQ) with strict compliance to health protocols to ensure the safety of the faithful.

“We follow the GCQ guidelines with strict implementations,” Bishop Pabillo said.

This was after President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on his late-night public address on Monday, August 17, 2020, made the announcement placing Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal back to GCQ from August 19-31, 2020, as proposed by the Inter-Agency Task Force on
Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-EID) in the midst of the increasing number of people infected by COVID-19.

Under the GCQ guidelines, the opening of some establishments are allowed as well as religious gatherings but is limited to ten persons only.

On August 1, the Archdiocese of Manila has released a Pastoral Statement titled “We Hear the Call” in response to the call of medical frontliners to have a “time out” for a period of two weeks.

As of August 18, there are 169,213 total cases of COVID-19 in the country with 53,665 active cases. There are 112,861 who recovered from the virus while 2,687 died. (Jheng Prado/RCAM-AOC)
