Caritas Manila warns the public of Scammers during pandemic


Caritas Manila, the social service arm of the Archdiocese of Manila, warns the public regarding scams that have been circulating that drags the institution by unscrupulous individuals. In particular, Caritas Manila is warning about a membership fee being charged to those who seek to solicit for assistance from the organization.


According to a statement from Caritas Manila, they have received a complaint about a fee being charged to person who would want to receive a promised financial assistance worth 5,000 to 10,000 pesos.

“Since last week, we have been receiving complaints that some people have been going around collecting membership fees to qualify for the alleged “financial assistance” from Caritas Manila. Please be informed that we do not collect any membership fees and we are not providing financial assistance amounting to PhP5000 to 10000,” this was the statement of Caritas Manila during an interview with Radio Veritas.

Caritas Manila is encouraging the public to inform their office in case any suspicious individual approaches them asking for money or donation with the name of Caritas Manila. The public may call at 8-562 00 20 until 25 local 131.

According to Veritas News, the public may also send a private message to Islas-Caritas Manila page or Caritas Islas Facebook account. (Fatima Llanza/RCAM-AOC)
