“As a close aide to the archbishop, I am happy to let you know that he is getting back to normal self again in an almost miraculous way, with only a slight problem of his physical movement which is also showing great improvement,” he said.

“For clarification, he was admitted in the hospital on the evening of May 23 and was discharged last July 6. The prolonged days in the hospital was due to some complications like the hospital acquired pneumonia. But he has long time been declared by his physician as stable," he added.

The Archbishop has already celebrated Mass, according to Msgr. Cuison, on the occasion of his 69th birthday.

“I am optimistic that it would just be a matter of days and he will be back to celebrate public masses for the faithful,” said Msgr. Cuison.

As Archbishop Valles is recuperating from stoke, Bishop Pablo Virgilio David was appointed acting President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines. (Jheng Prado/RCAM-AOC)
