Start of 10% Capacity in Churches set in Manila

Most Rev. Broderick Pabillo, Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Manila, welcomed the non-objection position of the local government of the City of Manila as compliance to the directive given by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) of allowing religious gatherings with congregation of 10% percent of church seating capacity.

This is in lieu of a letter dated July 7, 2020, from the office of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso which was addressed to Bishop Pabillo. In the letter, the mayor expressed his approval to allowing the more people to participate in religious activities, from the initial 10 people to 10% seating capacity in churches within the City of Manila.

“Please consider this writing as the city’s expression of non-objection to your religious gatherings provided that all the requirements and conditions set forth in the afore quoted provision are duly observed and complied with,” Mayor Isko said.

The IATF-EID Resolution No. 51 issued July 2 allows religious gatherings up to 10% percent seating capacity which is effective after July 10. However, during such gatherings, there will be strict observation and implementation of health protocols, social distancing, wearing of face masks and availability of hand hygiene necessities.

In an interview made by Radyo Veritas with Bishop Pabillo last July 4, the prelate said that the clergy has already been preparing for this day when religious gatherings are allowed.

“So it’s a good development at ang mga kaparian natin ay naghahanda na para sa July 10 ay maka-accommodate na sila ng 10-percent ng capacity ng Simbahan, so it’s a good development congratulations sa IATF na nakita nila ang kahalagahan noon,” he said. (Hazel Boquiren/RCAM-AOC)
