Together with the Pope, shrines all over the world will simultaneously pray including the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of Fatima, Our Lady of Lourdes, San Giovanni Rotondo, and Our Lady of Pompei.

According to Vatican News, the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization, which is in charge of the promotion of the initiative, gave dozens of rosaries to families and individuals who represent the areas with most affected by the coronavirus pandemic. They include doctors and nurses, recovered patients, people who lost loved ones, hospital chaplain, pharmacist and journalist. Also, praying with the Pope is a Civil Defense volunteer with his family, and a family who welcomed a new member amidst the spread of the disease.

The Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization, which has been in charge of Marian shrines since 2017, will broadcast the event via online live-streaming at the Grotto of Lourdes in the Vatican Gardens.

Archbishop Rino Fisichella, President of The Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization, sent out letters addressed to the rectors of the shrines inviting them to organize and promote the special moment of prayer for the world in accordance with current health regulations and relevant time zones.

“In light of the emergency situation caused by the Coronavirus pandemic that has caused the stoppage of the normal activity of all Shrines and the interruption of all pilgrimages, Pope Francis wishes to express a gesture of closeness to each of you with the recitation of the Holy Rosary,” Archbishop Fisichella said in his letter.
