Priest shares experience being with Frontliners combatting COVID-19

Fr. Hans Magdurulang, Parochial Vicar at San Felipe Neri Parish in Mandaluyong City when he visited and blessed the medical frontliners at VRP Medical Center on April 17, 2020.

Amidst the enhanced community Quarantine (ECQ) in Luzon, the VRP Medical Center in Mandaluyong City provided a floor that serves as a temporary room for their front liners to rest and sleep as well as providing place of refuge and safety for the medical workers.

Despite the fearsome threat of COVID-19, Fr. Hans said he was honored and glad that he had an opportunity to bless the frontliners in each floor, although with precautions and limitations. The hospital also provided him a complete set of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to use during the blessing of their personnel.

He said.

He also explained that during the blessing, they were not allowed to go inside the hospital rooms for their safety and the safety of the patients. Instead, they were instructed to walk and bless the front-liners who are in the corridors, elevators, stairs and nurse stations only.

In his message, he stated that the Church is praying with the medical front liners and all other kinds of front liners. It is also a call to strengthen their will in serving and saving lives infected by the COVID-19 virus.

The San Felipe Neri Parish also gave food, drinks, face shields and gloves to the frontliners in VRP Medical Center and National Center for Mental Health. Other frontliners during the ECQ were also given provisions by the parish--delivery men, garbage collectors, security guards, etc. (Fatima Llanza/RCAM-AOC)
