Easter reminds us we are bigger than this Pandemic

"I begin to believe that we, as Filipinos, together with all the peoples in the world, are bigger than the threat of the Coronavirus pandemic," said Most Rev. Romulo G. Valles, Archbishop of Davao and CBCP President, in his Easter message released on April 11, 2020.

"Together, with hearts filled with goodness and love, filled with deep sense of service and sacrifice, I begin to see the hope of Easter in us, and this hope is stronger when we, together, have hearts like that of Jesus in his sacrifice in Calvary," he said.

He explained that Easter calls for a celebration with the Risen Lord. It is understood that Jesus died because of His never-ending love for His people.

People in the frontline, particularly those individuals who are trying to save lives, extending aid the poor and those who put their lives on the line so that others maybe served, are the “concrete manifestation of the Easter Spirit”.

“Yes, no doubt, we are in an extremely grim situation, but I see clear sparks of the spirit of Easter in the hearts of thousands in the midst of this pandemic,” said the Archbishop.

The spirit of Easter is very much alive in the hearts of the faithful giving them strength and hope to do acts charity during this pandemic.

“We can still celebrate with profound thanksgiving in our hearts the solemn commemoration of the Resurrection of Jesus: the triumph of Jesus over death. This is the Easter that, I believe, we can celebrate together in these difficult days.” He added.

Easter is the great feast for Christians as they celebrate Christ's resurrection from the dead. It is celebrated on the 7th Sunday after Ash Wednesday, which marks the Season of Lent. Easter Sunday marks the end of Holy Week and the last day of the Easter Triduum--Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Easter Sunday marks the beginning of the Easter season which also lasts for 7 weeks, and ends with the celebration of Pentecost Sunday. (Fatima Llanza/RCAM-AOC)
