Caritas Manila sends kit and food bags to families affected by COVID-19 outbreak

Caritas Manila, the social service arm of the Archdiocese of Manila distributed LIGTAS COVID-19 kits and Caritas Manna Food Bags to the poor families affected by the pandemic coronavirus in the country.

“With the COVID-19 pandemic, the poor and the elderly are the most vulnerable. In difficult times like this, we are called to open our hearts and be moved to do concrete acts of charity by sharing our resources with those who need it the most,” according to Caritas Manila.

The kit distributed includes alcohol, face masks, liquid soap, vitamin c, reusable gloves, and disinfectants in order to protect themselves to COVID-19 while the manna food bag includes rice, canned goods, kalabasa/ malunggay noodles, munggo seeds, and salt and sugar.

Last March 20, 1,054 Manna Food Bags were distributed to the identified poor families in Baseco, Tondo, Smokey Mountain, and Intramuros.

Kapamilya actress, Bela Padilla donated one million pesos worth of canned goods and sacks of rice to Caritas Manila as one of the beneficiaries of her fundraising campaign for COVID-19.

"We have received Ms. Bela Padilla's donation of 1 million pesos worth of canned goods and rice for our Ligtas COVID-19 campaign. We express our heartfelt gratitude to you and all the donors who are in solidarity with the poor as we fight COVID-19," they said.

Fr. Anton Pascual, Executive Director of Caritas Manila personally turned over to Fr. Flaviano Villanueva of KALINGA program the 200 boxes of vitamin C, 100 pieces of mats and blankets from Caritas Manila. The donations will be given to the street families from the KALINGA program of the Divine Word Missionaries.

Most Rev. Broderick Pabillo, Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Manila stated in an earlier Pastoral Instruction that the faithful can donate to Caritas Manila for the needy.

"Our call of entreaty to God will be heard if we also hear the silent cry of those who have none. You can send your donations to your parishes or to Caritas Manila. The Archdiocese has a program to reach out to them through the parishes and other church institutions," he said. (Hazel Boquiren/SOCOM-San Juan Nepomuceno and Jheng Prado/RCAM-AOC)
