The visit which was held at the Arzobispado de Manila on March 3, 2020, was aimed at strengthening the collaboration between the Church and the men and women of AFP and PNP.

“We paid our courtesy call kay bagong bishop ng Maynila, of course, to pay respect and congratulate him for the new designation. But the most important talaga, is to establish yung strong coordination at natuwa kami na pumayag si bishop na meron na kaming regular ugnayan,” PMGen Sinas told the Archdiocesan Office of Communications.

“Dati kasi mapapansin mo wala, tapos ngayon maganda na yun nagkaalaman na pareho pala kami gusto. Ang point lang is walang meeting point at medyo nagkahiyaan. Siguro ngayon we’re very happy that bishop and some of the clergy na present are also amenable to the idea,” he added.

PMGen Sinas assured Bishop Pabillo and the rest of the clergy that they will always be of service to the Church and that they need the clergy’s guidance and blessings considering the nature of their job as law enforcers.

The General also expressed his hope that the PNP will pursue a regular dialogue and positive engagement with the Church where constant updating about the situation of NCR can be done.

“Mas maganda nandito na kayo, narinig nyo yung ibang aspeto na kung gusto nyo po let’s say, once a month, once a quarter. Kung gusto nyo po malaman ang situation ng NCR, we’re very willing to brief you on criminality, on terrorism, at of course yung pinaka-organized crime. Or any incident you’re interested. We’re very willing to engage po para po maliwanagan po kayo,” PMGen Sinas said.

Bishop Pabillo in return expressed his gratitude and told the PNP that they have a unified objective when it comes to serving the people.

“Kailangan talaga natin because we are serving only one people that we really work together. Alam ko marami pong mga misunderstandings ang ma-a-avoid kapag tayo naman ay sama samang nag-uusap,” Bishop Pabillo said.

Among those who were also present during the meeting were Fr. Chris Fajardo and Fr. Nonong Fajardo of the Archdiocese of Manila Public Affairs Office and Fr. Jerome Secillano of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Public Affairs Office. (Jheng M. Prado/RCAM-AOC)
